Rosie’s Place, Boston

For March 2024, my ShelterLess program is spotlighting Rosie’s Place, the organization selected by a recent buyer.  My tour of Rosie’s Place blew me away with the number of day services provided along with shelter beds.  Also impressive was the positive and caring vibe where women are welcomed.  Listened to.  Understood.  Loved.

Founded by Kip Tiernan in 1974, Rosie’s Place is the first emergency shelter for women in the nation. Every day, Rosie’s Place meets the most basic and critical needs of hundreds of poor and homeless women—offering nutritious groceries and meals, access to showers, lockers, phones, and computers and by providing both daytime and overnight shelter.

Further, the expert help of Rosie’s Place’s programs are lifelines to women who are seeking urgent housing, employment, substance abuse, mental health, legal or educational support. Since the onset of the pandemic, Rosie’s Place has grown and evolved all of their programs. From tripling its Food Pantry’s capacity to making help available online and over the phone, to renovating its space to better accommodate more women—Rosie’s Place is helping more women in more ways than ever before.

Rosie’s Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding. To learn more about the vital work of Rosie’s Place, please visit www.rosiesplace.org.
